Organic food, organic accommodation!

Near Angseri hot springs, not far from the stunning rice terraces of Jati Luwih high up in the mountains of Bali, you can find the ‘Organic Farm & Stay’ which I would highly recommend for lunch – and if you want isolated bamboo accommodation, simply oozing charm and character, well it has that too.

I’m so glad that I choose a salad.  The knowledgeable staff walked me through the farm and cut everything, from rocket, raddish, fennel and edible flowers etc., straight from the ground with a small pair of scissors.

They arranged it delightfully and colourfully on a plate with a subtle dressing and served it with spinach tempura and thick cut, fresh and hot, brown bread with home grown and homemade rhubarb jam.

It was a delicious experience, as well as taste, especially washed down with fresh mint tea and a jug of water with fragrant leaves floating on the top.

As you walk through their farm, past the free range chickens, the duck pond and the two cows you see the bamboo houses in their beautiful and natural setting.

The first couple of houses are reasonably close but the last one is quite a walk away… down the hillside, across the stream via a little bamboo bridge and way up to the top of the other side of the valley – you would need to be fit to stay here… or, at least, staying here would make you fit!  A getaway retreat, ideal for those who are into meditation, peace and quiet and scenic views.

And they tell me that the wood in the front of the picture is for a fire in order to toast marshmallows or corn on the cob – hmmm, nice – just remember to keep the fire well clear of the bamboo house!

The next day our lunch stop was in the tranquil gardens of Prana Dewi, another organic restaurant which served our tuna with red rice and vegetables and ice lemon tea in a setting equally beautiful yet very different from the previous day at the Organic Farm.

The accommodation here at Prana Dewi is more expensive, but then they do have a lovely pool and rooms made of bricks not bamboo (even though the restaurant is made of bamboo).
