Bathing at the base of a waterfall

Driving through lush, green rice paddies we head out to a nearby beauty spot.

Parking our bikes at the top of a cliff we can hear the voice of Tegenungan waterfall on the other side of the valley, but we can’t see it just yet.

We walk over to the edge to take a look and are greeted by this view….

First glimpse of the waterfall

A walk down the many steps set into the cliff, brings us down into the valley.

There are only a few Balinese in the river, but no one is bathing in the pool at the very base of the waterfall.

Can you hear it roar yet?

Can you hear it roar yet?

So we almost have the stunning views to ourselves.

Now we start our trek across wet boulders and pebbles to get closer to the power source of Tegenungan.

Good job we brought swimwear…

It was wonderful.

We stayed in the shallows, well you cannot get too close to the pummelling water.

It was fresh, but not too cold, and very invigorating.

Yaniq, Vince (a friend from London who was staying at Rumah Jepun), Bianca (my other guest from Australia) and I laid in the water for quite some time, soaking up nature’s energy.

Eventually Yaniq went to get the camera to capture the moment for us.

We only left because the light was falling and we had many steps to climb back up before dusk turned into sunset.

We reached the top just before the cafe closed – so we were in time for a beer overlooking the view.

And all this in the middle of January – you could call it: ‘The Further Adventures of Vincent‘ (and in this case, Bianca too)…

Ah, Bali – a dream world etched into reality.
