A love poem for Valentines Day

Romance of the Romantics

It starts off with a glimpse
or maybe just a word
because an image conveys a thousand things
but then… so can what you heard

Visual or audible nuggets
stoke fires flaming within
warming the depths of two happy hearts
as red blushes rise up from your chin

Special signals show feelings are mutual
yet still you ask, ‘Can it be true?’
that Eros’s gift, of the romance of the romantics
could be sending musical notes out to you

Eager for daylight to knock at your window
will it bring roses and whispers – shy smiles?
and will a featherlight touch upon your cheek
launch passion’s ripples around your body – for miles?

Your ring tone throbs earlier than you’d expected
you choose a fresh voice from the wardrobe to wear
Don Juan speaks softly to your Cinderella within
and holding hands you take a step on love life’s stair

– written by me – Happy Valentines Day
